Red dirt comes home to Cain's

Cody Canada brings the Ragweed songbook back to the room that made it famous, Candlebox returns from a short retirement, Hatebreed drags the heaviest bill of the summer into town, and the Drillers are home all week. Here is what is worth your time.

The one thing

Cody Canada and The Departed play Cain's Ballroom on Friday, July 10, and for red dirt fans this is about as close to holy ground as it gets. Canada fronted Cross Canadian Ragweed, the band that cut its legendary 2006 live album on this very stage, and Ragweed was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame during a surprise ceremony at a Cain's show earlier this year. Expect Departed songs and plenty of Ragweed. Tickets start at $25 plus fees, which is a bargain for a night this rooted in the room.

Live music and comedy

The weekend goes loud, in two very different directions.

Candlebox plays The Cove at River Spirit on Saturday, July 11. Frontman Kevin Martin announced his retirement, then thought better of it, and the band is back on the Can't Quit You Tour with original guitarist Peter Klett and new music on the way. The show is 21 and up.
Hatebreed brings the Summer Slaughter package to Cain's Ballroom on Sunday, July 12, with Devourment, Snuffed on Sight, Balmora, and Face Yourself. Five bands deep, starting early at 6 pm. Hydrate accordingly.

Festivals and free stuff

The Tulsa Farmers' Market runs Saturday morning, July 11, from 7 to 11 am at 1 South Lewis, with a smaller Wednesday market on July 8.
The Downtown Midweek Market sets up Wednesday evening, July 8, at Santa Fe Square, an easy after work stop for vendors and fresh food.
Night Light Tulsa returns Thursday evening, July 9, under the overpass at 200 North Maybelle, free music and community in one of Tulsa's more unusual venues.
The Tulsa Rock and Mineral Society show fills Expo Square Friday through Sunday, July 10 to 12. Kids 12 and under get in free with an adult, and it is a reliably great cheap outing with kids.

Sports

The Tulsa Drillers are home all week at ONEOK Field, hosting the Springfield Cardinals from Tuesday, July 7 through Sunday, July 12. Evening games start at 7 pm, and Sunday is a 12:05 pm FUNday where kids run the bases after the game. FC Tulsa is on the road this week and back home Saturday, July 18 against El Paso.

On the horizon

Cain's turns into a time machine on Saturday, July 25 when My So Called Band plays a full night of 90s hits, and The Ex-Faces, seven former members of Mushroomhead, hit The Shrine on Sunday, July 26. Full rundown in next week's edition.
