About Jason Boland & The Stragglers

Red dirt goes back to Stillwater.

Stillwater is where this band comes from. Jason Boland put the Stragglers together there in 1998 while he was at Oklahoma State, in the middle of a scene that was turning into something the rest of the country would eventually call red dirt. Pearl Snaps followed in 1999. Live and Lit at Billy Bob's Texas came in 2002 and is still the record people hand to friends who have not heard him.

Nearly three decades on, the Stragglers are one of the few acts from that Stillwater moment still touring hard with the sound intact. They were among the first to bridge Oklahoma red dirt and the Texas country wave that came right behind it, and the live show has never softened into nostalgia.

They play Tumbleweed Dancehall on Friday, August 28, 2026 at 9:30 pm. Tumbleweed is a Stillwater institution and roughly an hour from Tulsa on the turnpike, which makes this a night out rather than a night around the corner. Worth the drive to hear these songs in the town that produced them.
