About Don McLean
American Pie turns 55.
Fifty five years. That is how long American Pie has been in the world, and it is the reason Don McLean is out on the road in 2026 rather than sitting still. The song was long, strange and impossible to pitch to radio, and it went to number one anyway, which is a thing that almost never happens twice.
McLean built a whole catalog underneath it. Vincent has outlived most of the records released the same year. And More turned into a standard once other singers found it. He has spent decades being introduced as the American Pie guy and then quietly proving there was a lot more in the bag.
He plays the Mabee Center on Friday, August 28, 2026 at 7:30 pm. The Mabee sits on the Oral Roberts University campus in south Tulsa, an easy in and out with plenty of parking, and it is a seated room, which suits a night built around lyrics. Friday is stacked in this town, so know before you go that this one starts on time.
