About Dead Metal Society
The band that reopened the Vanguard.
When The Vanguard went dark in 2020, Dead Metal Society had been the last band to play it. When it reopened that October, they were the first band back on the stage. Not many acts get to bookend a venue's worst year, and in a town this size that counts as history.
They have been at it for more than eighteen years, playing 1980s hair metal with a lineup drawn from bands all over the Tulsa scene, including Imzadi, Salvation Amy, New Science and Forgotten Friday. That is the difference between this and a hired covers act. These are local players doing the music they grew up on, in front of people who know them by name.
They play The Vanguard on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 9 pm. It is the same downtown room, the same late slot, and the sort of crowd that sings the guitar solos back. If you have never seen a hometown band own a hometown stage, this is a cheap education.
